Book Nook Makeover

I have been going through my classroom learning centers by learning centers and making them over.  I just finished making over

Before
 After

Here is what our book nook now looks like.

For starters I moved the book nook area to a whole new spot in the classroom.  As it turns out it is the perfect spot for it.

We were able to add a Kaplan privacy cube in the corner and decorated it with a top curtain.

We add a shelf to form a whole corner area.  Instead of using plastic containers on the shelf we placing basket to hold the books in.  This gave the area a more calming feel.

The white can bucket holds stuffed animals for reading buddies.

To finish off the area we added a small flannel board for the children to retell stories on.

I love the new look of our book nook.

Friendship March

We finished off our Friendship unit with a friendship march.  All of the children brought in handmade musical instruments that they made as a family project and we used those beautiful instruments for our friendship march.  The children also made banner flags to wave around as we marched.
This will be a must do again next year.  It was a success.

The instruments that the families came up with were amazing.  Take a look.

Shoe box rubber band guitar, coffee can drum, and spoon with plastic egg shaker.

More shakers using empty plastic bottles and paper towel tubs.

This was part of the September Communication Folder Packet

Monthly Madness Planning Link Party

What will you be doing for the Month of October.

Take a sneak peak at what I have planned for all of my little ones.

I will be staring off the month with this fabulous book Pumpkin Heads by Wendell Minor.

Before reading the book we will be having a shred reading discussion

If you had a pumpkin what would you do with it?

If you carved a pumpkin what would yours look like?

For the first two weeks I will be blinding in the two lesson plans Scarecrows and Pumpkin Patch that can be found on TPT and TNB

I will also be adding the Scarecrow art that I found on Katherine Maries Blog.  Hop on over to her blog and you will not be disappointed with all of her cleaver ideas.

I will also be using Pumpkin on the Move for a movement activity by Leah Perry.  You can find it on her TPT store.

For the last two weeks of October I will be using the units Math Fun with Spider and Monster Mash Lesson Plan these can be found on TPT and TNB

I will also be adding these cute little scrap monsters from Katherine Maries Blog.

I will be reading this 5 Little Monsters Hiding Under the Bed by 123 Learning Curriculum

Writing Center Makeover

Before

 After
 A Closer Look

I freshened up the area with paint.  What a difference that made, it made that 1972 wooden shelf look like new.  Yes some of the furniture in my classroom dates back to the 70's.

The bottom shelf in baskets from left to right is envelopes, letter stencils, wooden tracing letters and booklets.

Close up look at Writing Tool Tub

I like to provide a variety of writing tools for the children to use.  This tub has removable writing tools that can be brought to the table.

Book Making Tub

Tool so that children can create their own books.  Here is a sample of a book a child made using the tools provided.

Top shelf from left to right is foam picture stamps, foam letter stamps, stamp pads and roll of making tape for book making or extending their drawing.
Bottom shelf from left to right is rulers, chalk board and tools, and picture word cards.
