The sun came out and along with the sun came the ants. The warmer it got the more ants we got simply amazing. The children sat around the pile of ants and observed what was happening.

Hey, Little Ant

After seeing all those ants we took the opportunity to read Hey, Little Ant

Once back inside some of the children went to the creative art area and made their own version of an ant.

And some took the opportunity to write about what they saw in the writing center.

Valentine Boxes

Our class has been getting ready for the big day of sharing valentine’s cards. I went to our local pay less shoe story and collected all the discarded shoe boxes. The children have been recycling them into their very own valentine treasure boxes to hold all the many valentine’s they will receive.

These cute little hearts have been popping up in the creative art area.

Exploring Worms

It has been raining a lot around here and the worms are out in droves. The children observed all the worms on the side walk on their way into the classroom and had to report their findings first thing. So since the children could not stop talking about all the worms and how some were crawling under the doors and into the classroom, we decided to take the opportunity to go for a walk and do some scientific observation. We aloud the children to collect worms and place them into plastic cups so that they could bring them inside for further observation. (Yes some of the teachers did not like this idea to much and the children took full advantage of the ones that got a little to squeamish.) Ok so I got a few laughs who could blame me. Once inside we took a close look with magnifying glasses and the children also wanted to measure them to see who found the longest one.  They will be talking about these worms for days to come.
