Week of the Frog

This week we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog.

One of our parents brought in a coffee cup full of tadpoles so that we can observe the life cycle of the frog.  We placed our new friends in a fish tank and placed plants and rocks to give them a nice living environment.  (I thought I took a picture of the children caring for them, but didn’t sorry)

 We turned our classroom walls into a frog pond

 Art Projects

Construction paper frogs and paper tube flies.

Froggy Freebie

Frog Pond Water Play

Cut out a supply of lily pads out of craft foam, add plastic frogs and small fish nets to the water tables or water tubs.

Jump Frog  Jump book with props

Find different items such as bean bag toys and small soft dolls to create a story tell kit for the children to retell the story on their own.

Color Frog Sorting Mats 

Make a supply of color mats for the children to sort all the different color frogs with.

Five Little Frogs Story Telling Glove 

Make a story telling glove out of craft foam and wiggle eyes.

Jump Frog Jump Color Floor Game

Make a game board out of blue butcher paper.  Make a square grid on the paper.  Mark one end Start and the other Finish line.  Place a set of colored bean bag frogs on the start line along with a colored dice (made from a mailing box 6 X 6).  Have children take turns rolling the dice.  As each child rolls the dice they identify that color and then find the frog that matches that color and moves the frog one square ahead.  See if they can predict which frog will win.  I like to use these types of games with the children, each child gets a turn but there are no winners or losers.   

Found A Toad

The children found a toad in the school garden which brought us to a class discussion on the differences between a toad and frog.

Some of the children took the opportunity to draw a picture of the found friend.

And some turned it into a art activity of frogs on logs.
