What will Happen?

We wanted to know if seeds in the pumpkin would grow and if Indian corn would grow.

First we asked the children to predict what will happen if we added dirt to the pumpkin and Indian corn.  We wrote down what all of the children said so that we can revisit it later.

Children took turns adding dirt to the inside of the pumpkin and also into a bowl that the corn would go in.

Next the children watered the dirt.

Now we are just waiting to see what will happen.  We will be taking pictures to record what is happening to the project.  Children will also be telling us what they see and their answers will be recorded.

A Peek At Our Week

We have been very busy with pumpkin science projects like sink and float, what's inside a pumpkin and what will happen?

After the children were done exploring what was inside the pumpkin we cut up the pumpkin and placed the pieces inside a glass jar.  What had the children predict what they thought would happen to the pumpkin inside the jar.

We will keep you post with pictures at what is happening to our pumpkin.

What will you be doing for the Month of October.

Take a sneak peak at what I have planned for all of my little ones.

I will be staring off the month with this fabulous book Pumpkin Heads by Wendell Minor. 

Before reading the book we will be having a shred reading discussion

For the first two weeks I will be blinding in the two lesson plans Scarecrows and Pumpkin Patch that can be found on TPT and TNB 

I will also be adding the Scarecrow art that I found on Katherine Maries Blog.  Hop on over to her blog and you will not be disappointed with all of her cleaver ideas.

I will also be using Pumpkin on the Move for a movement activity by Leah Perry.  You can find it on her TPT store.

For the last two weeks of October I will be using the units Math Fun with Spider and Monster Mash Lesson Plan these can be found on TPT and TNB

I will also be adding these cute little scrap monsters from Katherine Maries Blog.

Building Math Skills with Pocket Charts

When teaching about math at circle time I find that it is helpful if I use a pocket chart so that the children can be more involved in the process. Children are able to come up and move the number cards around until they are able to have them in the proper order and as they place the cards in proper order they will discover that the numbers have also created a math pattern.

Pocket charts are a sure way to engage children in learning about numbers and patterns.  These pocket chart printed number cards with a pattern sequence are an interactive way to teach children about number order and pattern 1 through 30.  With these pocket chart cards children can practice putting numbers in order and as they master putting the numbers in order they will discover that they are also creating patterns with the cards. Fall Festival

We ended October with a performance of Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle.

The cow and Moon we even had a dish and spoon.  All the children took turns performing for other teacher, children and parents.

We also had carnival games going.

We used pumpkins in our water tables.

We drew on our pumpkins.

We read books about pumpkins.
